ok your running vista already wich is a resource hungry operating system as it is. both norton, and macafee are also the same , and will slow your computer to a crawl. i am always highly suspect of anything that comes free witha purchase of a computer and is preloaded like i assume yours was. the program in stores i think is around 60 bucks ,.. so why would they give it to you .. well here is the catch .. you have to subscribe to their update service it may be free for a few months to a year , but you will pay some sort of updating fee once that is done , and let me tell you its not easy to get rid of either.. uninstall still leaves garbage files that still tell you your virus software is out of date ,and need to sign up again to fix the issues (almost sounds like malware) . avast avg software is free, and works great .. i also suggest you get thier anti malware, and spy ware proggys(all from avg as well) .. also download for free spybot search and destroy. with these 4 programs installed and running ,along with windows firewall up , you wont get hacked ,and they all run using less resources then the one single nortons. program that dont protect from all sides .. like the above do..
