If you want free antivirus try Avira Antivir or Active Virus Shield.

Use Kaspersky or Nod32 for solid protection.
PC guard by virgin broadband is good so is zone alarm.i got PC guard free off the virgin broadband website .check on the zone alarm website if it is free but they're both good I'm using zone alarm at the moment.

For anti-spyware protection, get lavasoft's Ad-aware Free 2007 from www.lavasoftusa.com.
All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free.After you install any of them,make sure you update them to get the full affect.
