I've looked through seemingly all of the options and preferences. It's very annoying. Every time I boot up my computer, the icon in the system tray animates and it does an on-access scan of every file, which draaags the system down big time. How can I get this to stop? I like to only scan manually. I like the program itself...just don't like this feature that I haven't figured out how to turn off.
How to stop Avast AntiVirus on-access protection from loading every time at startup?norten
Try Right clicking the Blue ball with the A on %26gt; select Program settings, On the common tab , De-select the "test memory During application Start up " entry.

Hi Seeker, Sorry for the delay in responding.
I too use Avast on one of my machines, and apart from the "test memory" option ,I can't see what's causing this (apart from you having scheduled boot scans ,but this doesn't sound like that??)
What you're saying is happening,is not happening with me,But......................... I have a faint memory of disabling a startup item through msconfig.?? (very faint)
The only Avast Process I have when booting up is......ashDisp.exe
See what Startup items you have relating to Avast, You only need The one i mentioned for Avast to run as normal.
To see start up items click Start%26gt;run, type msconfig and hit enter, Click on the start up tab..
Also ,while this scan is running, see what services are running related to Avast (via msconfig/services) You may be able to disable it there.
Good luck.
