AVG Anti-virus is just an anti-virus program. It will protect against certain types of hacker attacks but not all.

AVG Internet security is a full security suite and should provide reasonably good protection against a large majority of hacker attacks.

As trevbrat03 above said the best kind of protection you can get is a hardware firewall. These are included in pretty much all modern routers.

A combination of keeping your operating system up to date with the latest updates, good anti-virus software and a router with built in firewall for your internet connection should be adequate security for almost any home computer system that it connected to the internet.

Just antivirus software alone can not provide u security against hackers.All u need is a good firewall.If ur Firewall is efficient then u r protected.So instead of just antivirus u must have antivirus+firewall ,then only u can say tat ur PC is protected from hackers.

Protection from hackers is the sole purpose of a firewall.
To avoid hacking you can go thru Zone Alarm Firewall. You also can do it with some system setting like Disable Remote System Sharing from Control Panel Administrative Tools.

hackers are getting better as each day goes bye

my machine gets hacked into all the time and sooner than later

they seem to get into any virious protection straight away

so the avg might work for how long who knows
norton does but I am not sure if it is part of the AV program
